Somatic Moment: Grounding Breath Work
Somatic practices create awareness of the body and its sensations so you can uncover areas of constriction in your physical self as well as in your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Developing more body awareness, including places of ease and tension, can allow you to experience yourself fully; become more grounded so you can work through emotions, stress, or pain; and create more presence and ease in everyday living.
Throughout the course, we’ll offer moments for you to pause and check in with yourself using somatic strategies so you can integrate the material you’re learning more deeply. These somatic moments are also great to share with clients and loved ones to support them in building their health toolbox.

“The theory of breath work is that breathing is the one function you can do completely consciously or completely unconsciously.”
– Andrew Weil, MD

Reframing health requires learning about different health perspectives and staying open to the aspects that may create positive changes for you. To do this, it can be helpful to consider how each perspective creates space for your unique well-being.

In this video, Will Cole, IFMCP, DNM, DC, shares what he believes sets functional medicine apart from other healthcare models, including how it honors IIN’s core concepts of bio-individuality and multidimensional health.

Core Concepts: Bio-Individuality and Multidimensional Health

Healthcare vs. Sick Care

What is your country’s healthcare system like? Just as there are many approaches to health, there are multiple healthcare systems around the world. In the United States, for example, the healthcare system is often viewed as a disease management system. Within this system, most healthcare resources are spent on managing chronic health conditions rather than promoting wellness and prevention. A growing number of health experts are calling for a new model of value-based healthcare  – one that emphasizes lifestyle medicine, holistic and patient-centered care, and disease prevention to lower healthcare costs and effectively reduce the rates of chronic disease. One way we can do this is through integrative medicine.

Prevention with Integrative Medicine

In this video, Andrew Weil, MD, highlights the need for a new healthcare model, such as integrative medicine, that emphasizes prevention over disease management.

Health has always meant different things to different people. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, health is based on the movement of qi (“energy or life force”) and harmonizing yin and yang, opposite but complementary qualities. Traditional African healers view health as more social than biological. Indigenous American healing traditions involve ceremonies for greeting the seasons and use plants for healing and promoting health.

During the course, you’ll have opportunities to explore a range of approaches and practices, including IIN’s unique take on health, to help support your own bio-individual needs along the path to your health transformation.

In this video, you’ll learn more about IIN’s approach, which is grounded in the idea that what nourishes you includes things both on and off your plate.
